1980-1981 The Movement for New Culture „The Orange Alternative” as a gazette during student strikes
The Orange Alternative sources are in the Movement for New Culture, which began its activities in the fall of 1980 at the University of Wrocław (Bresslau) as a consequence of that year's Solidarity upheaval. Formally it was ended on December 13th, 1981 following the Martial Law imposition by General Wojciech Jaruzelski.
Initially “The Orange Alternative” was the name of a student newspaper published by the Movement for New Culture during the biggest student strikes in November and December 1981.
The ideological backbone of the "Orange Alternative" was the Manifesto of Socialist Surrealism authored by Waldeamar Fydrych aka Major. This manifest stated that "whole world is a piece of art, and that even a single militiaman standing in the street is a piece of art". Written in the early spring of 1981, the manifest provided the latter ideological base for the Orange Alternative movement.
The first editorial committee of the "Orange Alternative" were: Major Waldemar Fydrych, Wiesław Cupała, Piotr Adamcio, Andrzej Dziewit and Zenon Zegarski. Some illustrations were made by Marek Puchała.
